WHO IS IT FOR?

The CYQ Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training is relevant to candidates aged 18 and over, that have an interest in working with healthy adults.

Course Content

Candidates will need to complete the following modules:

Level 3 Exercise and Fitness Knowledge (50 hrs)

  • Advanced knowledge of anatomy
  • Physiology
  • Kinesiology
  • Nervous System
  • Information gathering and the psychological stages of change.

Resistance Programs (50 hrs)

  • Advanced programming for fixed and free weights (with case study managed over a 12 week period)
  • Goal setting

At this stage candidates can request the Certificate in Advanced Fitness Instructing (free if on PT Course)

 

Client Appraisal (50 hrs)

  • Fitness assessment and screening methods
  • Exercise prescription
  • Stress management
  • Teaching methods

 

Nutrition and Weight Management (30 hrs)

  • Major foods and food groups
  • Minor constituents of food.
  • Fluids & Fluid requirements
  • Nutrition and energy production, storage and balance
  • Nutrition and fat reduction.
  • Nutrition to enhance sport/physical
  • activity performance and recovery
  • Assessing nutritional status
  • Eating disorders

 

Sports Conditioning (30 hrs) 

  • Programming and movement analysis for the sports participant.
  • Advanced programming and monitoring
  • Goal Setting - short, medium & long term
  • Analysing information on clients past and current performance
  • Principles of programming/training
  • Advanced resistance training/circuits
  • Plan, manage and evaluate programs
  • The performance cycle
  • Coaching methods

 

Assessment

  • Externally assessed theory papers
  • Internally assessed live case study (adv RT & CV)
  • Internally assessed case study (Nutrition & Client Appraisal)
  • Internally assessed analysis and session (Sports Conditioning)

 

Pre-requisites

One current level 2 qualification in a related area (within 3 years) and a current HSE approved First Aid at Work qualification. (25 hrs)
